lake water in a reef tank

    Im moving on october 15 to my new house but its on lake simcoe and right on the water and its lake water that comes from the tap. Would my ro/di system make the water reef safe.

    Yes it will. I would even add another pre-filter to help with the efficiency.

    Also the new place has a built in water softer is that a problem ?

    That I dont know. Im sure someone on here will though.. I would think so because its lowering the CaCO3 found in the water..

    Nope. A water softener is a great idea for anyone who has a RO/DI unit. Hard water does not help the membrane at all, in fact, it hurts it's performance.

    No i have not seen it. Whats it about ?

    I know it comes from the lake but the water has bin treated and has chemicals and stuff added to it.
