i've just moved into my new place and have temporarily set up my 50 gallon tank on my porch where it does get a couple hours of direct sunlight. this is only a temporary situation until my new 135 gets in later this week. my original plan was to have the tank inside on a wall that fit it perfectly, but my place has that snap in pergo laminate wood flooring, and i'm hearing that water and this floor DO NOT get along. between rearranging rocks, cleaning, topping off, feeding and water changes i know there could be some spillage/leakage.
i'd really like to keep the tank inside i'm just looking for some pointers and if anyone has experience with this. my plan so far is to modify the home made stand but putting a ply wood sheet on the bottom and putting some sealant on all seams so that any spills inside the stand stay inside the stand. i'm wondering if theres also some type of matt, rug, or anything else i could put under the stand to help with any water that might get down below.

if its a no, looks like i'm destined to try my hand at a porch tank, i live in hawaii so temps don't get too out of hand but i don't want to try to keep up with green algae going nuts.

    mahalos in advance

I have the same lego type flooring out here in China
had the tank set up 2 years plus
I naturally have accidents but as long as I mop up qucikly , no serious damage has been done as yet

its true that the salt water will damage the varnish coating, but IME no worse than spilled fizzy drinks will ( LOL the area where the children sit to eat and drink looks a lot worse than the area near my reef tank]

ive got the laminate under mine also. as said above , as long as the water doesnt get down under the laminate , where it will be wicked up like a sponge, for an extended period of time , you should be okay.

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)

Spills are pretty much unavoidable, but as mentioned if you clean them up quickly you should not have any problems.

I would do what you can to bring the tank indoors, otherwise save up the money and do the floors and an inwall tank at the same time. We love build threads and pics...

haha, i wiiiish. i'm just renting so no inwall tank for me.

Right on, glad to hear that a bunch of you have gone ahead and done tanks on this flooring. did anybody out there put anything on the bottom of their stand or underneath it to help with wear or with spills?

The risk you run by putting anything under it is the possibility of water getting trapped under it where you cant dry it out.
