I found an encrusting sponge on a hidden rock. The sponge is about 8 inches by 4 inches and about 1/2 inch thick. It is white with small red stripes. It has two tubes coming out the end of the sponge for intake and output. Does this Sponge deplete the vitamins I put in the tank or does he live off of thing's in the saltwater itself. Is it benificial to keep or does it suck up food for my corals? No camera so no pics.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Sponges are good IMO. Anything that filters small particulate matter and waste in a tank is good in my book.
