hey guys im slowly getting my roughly 150 build together and just pondering additional livetsock, there is a beach i typically visit on holidays that i have a permit to collect from and there are some monstrous snals up to 2 or 3 inches in circumfrence, its been quite a while since i have been so i dont have any pictures but was wondering how these extra large snails would fair in a display tank with minimal live rock

Wouldn't put too many in there or they would eventually starve down to the number that your tank could handle.

Not to mention, there is no way of telling what they eat.

Where are you going to collect them? Are they ball shaped and smooth, or bumpy? Are you going to collect them off rocks or in the sand? If you can answer those questions, I can give you a few guesses on what they are, and subsequently what they'll eat.

    Cheers,

    Don

hey thanks don, they are round similar to a garden snail, they are plane in colur but they have like a metalic shiney scale on the side of there shell, they are in tide pools and off the rocks in and around the jervis bay area on the south east coast of australia

    Hey somethingfish,

They are most likely Turbo species, which will be safe algae eaters. You could probably keep 2 or 3 in a 150 if they are actually Turbos. If they look like the links below, they will be OK in your tank, assuming you are going to keep it semi-temperate like the waters around Jervis Bay:

    Turbo (Subninella) undulatus

Shell Catalogue - Family TURBINIDAE TURBININAE

If they look like any of these instead, they will be predatory, and you mostly likely won't want to keep them, unless you choose to keep a couple and catch your own snails to feed them:

Shell Catalogue - Family MURICIDAE RAPANINAE

    Good Luck, and Cheers,

    Don
