    Hey all,

Great news today. Today the Australian Government passed into legislation the largest network of marine sanctuaries on the planet.

Basically covers the entire great barrier reef and most coastal reefs along the entire country.

Just moment while I grab my dive gear and head to the airport !

That's great news, the red sea turned massive areas into "protected" reefs about 12-15 years ago, it's now an offence to touch, remove or alter the reef or it's inhabitants.

I hope they do the same with the barrier reef, I dove the barrier reef and the islands up and through French Polynesia and into Hawaii for 5 weeks in April, I have to say the reefs were not in great condition, I hope this sanctuary ruling will start the repair that must happen for it to survive.

How does this affect us directly? Are there any fish that are normally available that won't be now? Not that I think it's a bad thing, but I am curious. If there are any, hopefully people will get those to breed in their tanks.

Take divers den on live aquaria for example, a good 50% of the things on there are from Australia. A tonne of the acroporas and LPS on there wont be available soon.
