I'm new here i have been in this hobby for about 2 years. I'm in the process of moving up from a 50 Gallon to a 120 gallon Reef tank. I bought my tank and stand lastnight. I already have a PM sump 36x16x16 and my next buy next week is my Protein Skimmer. I have chosen the SRO XP 2000 in sump skimmer...This is your last call to talk me out of it if you indeed have a better choice. It's really my last big purchase for this tank set up. BTW, Bubble king is a no go since they are so expensive. Try to keep it in the same price range as the SRO skimmer I have in mind.

I don't have any experience with any Reef Octopus skimmers, but judging from the rave reviews and the fanfare from long-time SW aquarists, I'd say it must be a darn good product. If I ever set up a large tank with a sump, that's what I'm going to get.

I just ordered the Skimmer yesterday and Aqua Cave sold out and has to get more from the manufacturer. They can't keep them in inventory that long. He said it's perfect for my application and apparently it works for a lot more. I won't see mine for another two weeks...thats how good it is.:p

I use a SRO and love it. Hard to get dialed in, but once it is there is smooth sailing.

I don't have issues dialing in my XP-2000. The only thing is it is made to run in 6-8" of water. So, I need to raise it up on an eggcrate stand inside the sump. I've found though the shallower end of that range is better really. So, make sure that won't give you height issues inside your stand. Works like a champ though otherwise.
