I also use the 6500K, 65 watt CF flood light over my 20 gallon long fuge. the water level is only 10" though. i keep a nano powerhead going all the time in addition to the normal flow from the tank to help force water flow through the spagetti algae. my plants have tripled in 3 months. i also have 3" of live sand and several small live rocks.

Not even close to an expert on anything in this hobby but have heard that good water flow through the everything in the fuge is a must. That is why i went with a long linear design.

Thanks Dahos for the input...I took it all down today and will start it back up soon....once I finish the 125 gallon set up ...was just to much going on at one time for me, and the lack of growth in the fuge on the 90 gallon was like a huge ZIT on the display tank in the condition it was in.

I will be revisiting this issue again...I will not accept defeat!! Soon I will be cycled enough in the 125 gallon to fire up the 55 gallon fuge on that one ...and will see how it performs ....It has dual 36" PC 96watt 6700k lighting 3 inch sand bed...hopefully I will not have the same issues.

Thanks to all who gave advice

Power, your tank is still cycling regardless of what type of rock you got in there, but I don't think that is your problem. Expect minor issues that come and go as you cycle through this first year.

Lowering your water may help but before you go through all that try waht somone suggested with the egg crate raising the chaeto up.

I think your problem in the fug was not lighting but the flow, probably due to the hex shape. The longer fug work well because of the water flowing over and through the algae at a slower rate...good luck.

I had a maxjet 1200 installed with a spray bar mounted horizontial ...was on about 7/8 flow delivering flow top middle and bottom. plants would circle alot and those in the sand would lean at 45 degree angle. I thought if anything was to much flow, maybe i was wrong...but the next attempt will be a square tank for sure!
