Decided to get a Melanurus Wrasse instead of a Scopas Tang for my last fist. There are alot of benefits for me with this fish, since I saw a red/brown flatworm in the gravel, plus they are gorgeous. In the past I also just though they were a non reef-safe fish due to the coloration on them, but I'm excited!

Congrats! I love my melanarus! Gorgeous fish, great personality and they do a great job of keeping the tank pest free. Well behaved also, mine doesn't pick on any of my smaller fish.

Do you have a build thread? I would love to see more of your tank!

I'm pumped. the planaria flatworms don't respond well to flatworm exit and I'm pretty sure thats what I got. I can see some on the glass, sand, and LR, but none on my corals so thats pretty nice. I also read that the toxins affect montipora very badly. I've seen 4-5 posts early on where those corals where hit really hard.
Since this isn't an emergency (ie AEFW) The Melanurus Wrasse is going to be great. I started researching after Sharoleb's thread and never heard anything bad about them. One thread was a guy with a huge reef and he had 4 of them in there lol

Halichoeres species wrasses are reef safe. They can be hard on small feather dusters and small motile inverts like snails.

Yes, they are awesome at pest control, but yes they can take out snails and smaller crabs. Mine ate both of my porcelain crabs.
