lawnmower blennies at night...

hey guys, do lawnmower blennies lose their color at night? it was about 2 in the morning, and i couldn't sleep, so i figured i'd study my aquarium (hehehe)... anyway, i can't find my blenny for ANYTHING... but i did find something that i have never seen before.. coming out of my liverock, about half an inch in diameter, maybe an inch long... or something like that, extending out of my rock! i would say it most closely resembles the stalk of an anemone, but for one, it was extending sideways, not curving up or anything, and there were no tentacles on the end... i saw it, and looked away to rub my eyes, and when i went to look at it again, it was gone! or so i thought... i was looking in the area that it was, and i saw it move.. but it had gone back into the rock.... that's why i was wondering if lawnmower blennies lose their color at night... maybe that's what i saw (just a small part of my blenny), but didn't recognize it because it was a different color... but i couldn't make out any thing resembling an eye, or even the "eyebrows" that blennies have... i have NO CLUE as to what this thing is though... i saw it move and was like "what the (insert explicitive here) is that??".... can anybody tell me what it was that i saw? i thought it may be a crab/snail or something, but i didn't notice anything resembling a shell... and when it has gone back into the rock, what was still revealed looked exactly like the rock, even had a bit of coralline growing on it... no pics, but i'll look at it tomorrow, when the lights are on, to see if anything's different, and i may take one or two tomorrow night... someone's asked me for pics of my tank anyway, to see how i'm coming along...

oh, on a side note, i found out that my damsel has his own personal bed... a hole in a piece of liverock, with an opening that seems smaller than he is, but he seems happy in there at night (i found him with my flashlight)...

sounds like some kind of worm. What color was it? Also being that big, ya might wanna remove that rock and do a fresh water dip to chase it out. There is a number of things it could be, and most of them are bad.

 

i think i've decided its some sort of clam... i was watching it again last night, and on top, it looks like an opening... but i didn't think they could move like this one was... it didn't open and close like a normal clam... and it looked like its foot was attached to the rock, and he was sliding out sideways (even facing up, but still sideways...).... either a clam or the rock is an alien egg trying to hatch....

 

what i would suggest is you do another hunt for it again but this time arm your self with the best weapon.
a torch lol then if you see it you flick it on and try to get a look at it

or get a camera with flash and take a picture with falsh as it will pick out what you cant

Clams will move in and out like that. I had the same experience not that long ago. it looked funky as hell, so I jerked the rock out and broke out some snips and started cutting the rock apart and it was a reef clam. I found 3 in this one rock.
