I have about 15 snails in my 90 gallon tank, 5 are Turbo's the rest are look like little chinese hats ( not sure what kind )

The last week they have been for a lack of better words ...lazy, lethagric. Never seem to move, actually hanging down from walls rocks. The last time I observed this happen I found that my Salinity was very low. I have checked my salinity and its 1.024 and my temps are high 76's at night and high 78's during day. My basic parameters haven't changed in weeks to include alk, Cal and Mag....

Any ideas ?? The crabs in the tank all seem fine, they only move around at night and the fish all seem fine. There is plenty to eat for everyone. I have a 125 gallon that has finished cycling ( in the dark ) and is starting some diatoms so I moved a few over to that tank and after 3 days still haven't moved...they are sucked down on the rock or window....just done move ??

Nope I always think there dead, but when I try to pick them up, or push them over ...they are stuck, or I see their bodies moving slightly

Is there something besides iodine , calicium and food that I'm forgetting ??

i would do a water change and see if they perk up. i trust your not doseing with out testing right?
also if nothing is wrong with parameter and livestock is acting weird, it may be worth looking into leaking voltage and get a ground probe

FUnny you should mention ..... your gonna luv this !

I got my iodine test kit yest, and just finished testing both tanks ....90 gallon...3 months old ....0.00 iodine ................125 gallon 5 weeks old 0.02 iodine ......and I installed grounding probes yest in all tanks .....I tested the voltage last week and got 4.8 in the 90 and 8.6 in the 125 .....I tested after the probes were installed 0.0 in all tanks ....even fuge!

Nice to know I'm on the right track.....I added some Lugols into both tanks and will SLOWLY bring the liodine levels up to 0.06 Natural Ocean Water.

On the up side .....I have been having issues with my Xena...and after moving it to the 125 tank a few day ago...and an Iodine dip...its looking better..but far from healthy!!

OOPs in my excitement I forgot to ask a question .

Lugols says 1 drop per 35 gallons per day to maintain levels.... soooooo I really don't wanna do this daily....weekly is more convienient. any reccomendations ?? I will be dosing a few drops daily to get the levels up....but then what for weekly..... Maybe a less potent solution like Kents Iodine ?? I'm still a little scared of Lugols ..as it much stronger then most.....( and have the GOLDEN finger now to prove it )

The 'chinese hats' are limpets. I have a limpet that has not changed spots in 2009. I have photo evidence of this. Even at night. Is it dead? Is it dormant? Who fricking knows, but I'm leaving it be. They do that.

I have close to 200 snails (6 or so varieties) in my 55g, mostly dwarf ceriths. Limpets are neat, but not very useful IME.

the chinese hat smiley is, like, the only hat stereotype smiley we don't have to choose from... so here is a selection of others:

where's my limpet? ok, then where's waldo?

yes lugols is very strong. i had some and it ate through the rubber top, one day i was doseing and i was like how did i get iodine all over me.

once you get it up to the appropiate level you shouldnt have to dose daily unless you have alot of corals.

the inverts maybe adjusting to the iodine level. you may be suprised to learn a couple of us think dosing iodine can bad for inverts as it will force a molt in many shrimp(force being the key word not help)
edit: but dont worry if your just bringing it up to the appropiate level

I've read a lot of back and forth on the iodine subject... personally, I'm taking the route of ignoring it completely. Until I have some specific problem that makes me think it needs checked... I've read enough success stories of that approach that I'm not risking any iodine mishap.

Makes me wonder about the snails ....Its t he Turbos that caught my attention. they used to move around alot, now they just sitting and something looks like they are trying to exit their shells ....but they have't been moving at all...just sitting.

I will keep an updated on the iodine and snail performance changes
