I was thinking about buying a new flat screen HDTV with my Christmas bonus this year but thought against it. Now with Circuit City going out of business and their prices being slashed (a bigger discount starts soon...) I am thinking about buying one for the right price, which for me is 50% off or more. So I started researching LCD vs Plasma and I think I'm more confused then when I started. Some points make me lean one way, some the other way. So what advice does everyone have? I know there are some tech geeks out there willing to share their opinion!
I am leaning more towards plasma but burn-in possibilities is one thing that has me worried...

I like LCD screens, we have a 42" and a 37" and really like them. At work the plasmas there already have burn marks. The TNT logo is burned into the lower right corner. They are only about a year old.

Thanks for the input, maybe I need to start a poll! I don't think burn in will be a factor but as soon as I say that we will leave the tv on all night and I will be eating my words!! I don't know if I want to take a chance...

Your plasmas (generally) are larger and will have a better picture at a further distance. Check the optimal distance for viewing and make sure you have room. LCD is the opposite. And always have your TV professionally calibrated. It's expensive, but, worth it. I have a 32" lcd hd etc. and it's perfect.

Just a little warning... Circuit City is not slashing prices. They are listing the discounted items % based on the SUGGESTED RETAIL from the manufacturer, just to try to create a stir from people who won't research. At least here, Best Buy is still cheaper, even on those "40-50%" off items. Just a heads up.

Dude, why would anyone go with plasma, I have 3 LCD tv's and they work great. There is no glare from the sun or lights. The official TV of the NFL..... Samsung. Just remember all the other crap you got to buy, wall mount bracket will cost another chunk of change. then you got the cables and you got to buy the HD box and you got to buy HD channels. You really dont need any of it, but it makes it nicer.

I'm thinking 46" max, no bigger for my living room. The prices seem pretty close to each other. Honestly I think it will come down to what they will give me the best deal on, it seems the 2 different types are pretty close these days. I'm hoping to get a 40-46 for around 500-600. All they have left are displays so I won't pay any more. 1080p of course. Some that I noted today at current prices:
    40" lcd Sony $1039
    46" lcd Samsung $1199
    42" plasma Panasonic $999

I'm thinking the 42 plasma would be a good one I might be able to get them low enough on...

With my current 36" sometimes I can't even tell what the score is during a game :)
