    Hey all,
This is a picture of my leather coral. I got it this spring and had it in my tank under horrible lighting conditions. I got it from a friend who had a tank catastrophe and got rid of everything. I to this day haven't seen any polyp extension. About 2 months ago I upgraded my lighting to a coralife aqualight pro halide/compact fluorescent unit. Still, no polyp extension. I've had it for at least 4 months now. It shrinks up every night when the lights go out, and it swells back up every morning when the lights come on. All my parameters are good and all my other corals added since the new light are all doing fine. (Frogspawn, zoas, star polyp, green hairy shrooms...) Is this bad? The wound that you see there is from a fragging i just took off BTW. You can see a few little lumps that look like thats where the polyps should be coming from, but they never come out. What is this things deal???

Where is it placed in the tank? How much flow does it get? When I got mine I had it placed mid to high in the tank. It survived, but their was no polyp extension. I now have it on the sand bed with slow to moderate flow and it is a beast. The leather is currently under a 4x54 Current fixture.

First let me ask you why would you frag an already obviously stressed coral and cause it more stress?

I have a Devils hand that looks allot like that one, it about midway in the tank, gets tons of light ans a goodly amount of flow.

I can't help but wonder if it could possibly be the change in lighting. I mean you said you said yourself that you had horrible light
before and now its under some pretty strong light, maybe you are burning it. Can you cover it or block some of the light its
getting and see if that helps a bit.

I will try and move it lower. Its about midway up in the tank and its getting moderate flow right now. Before i got this new light i had a 30 watt t8 strip and a 36 watt t5 current fixture with 10k and actinic combo. I had the thing centered under the current fixture and it never opened under that.

I've had it in three different places since the new lights and have tired adjusting the flow a ton. Is there a possibility that it is just too far gone? I fragged it and took the frag into my schools wet lab that has tanks that have been established for 5+ years in hopes that i could hopefully save a piece of it.

I'm running two koralia 4's and my tank is a 46 bowfront. I think what i'll try is keeping one of them off at a time and just alternate them and see what happens.

Well after much consideration... I reaquascaped my entire tank. The problem with this coral is its attached to a fairly large rock. And the only way to move it down and further away from the flow was to aquascape it into the wall. Sooo its now further from the light, and further out of the flow. Hopefully we'll see some polyps in the next couple days.

Some yellow to it but not really any pink. I can try and get another pic up tomorrow but only the moonlights are on now. What do you mean by it being dyed?

Here is another photo. I think the pinkish/purple tinge is from the actinics. If thats what your refering to pickupmann?
