we just got this leather coral a week ago. seemed to be adjusting fine. until this morning when i got up it seems to be melting and falling apart. i removed it from my DT. Can i save the portion that is not affected by cutting off the bad??? how should i go about removing the bad stuff??? any help would be awesome. P.S. all other corals and my peramiters are good. my kenya tree is closed up right now but will keep an eye on it to make sure its ok.. Could this be a bacterial infection?? if it is will it effect my other corals?

Many things can cause a leather to suddenly meltdown, normally it is due to not enough or too much light/flow. If you can remove the bits which are 'melting' and try relocating it to a different area in the tank.

I would frag off some of the good part's and scoop the remaining slim and discard it. Keep it all out of the main tank until it stand's up and is solid. Take what you frag off and stick a toothpick through it and use rubberband's and band it to small rubble rock for a few week's and it should adhere to the rock then you could safely put it back in the D.T. If it does affect the other coral's I feel sure it would only be coral's like a Leather and maybe other soft coral's. Since it is out of the D.T. I would keep a close eye on other softies and mushroom's. good luck
