    I cut the piece off, plus the surrounding tissue. Rather than risk infecting my tank, I threw the piece away. It seems to be doing just fine. I'll keep an eye on it and post any changes.

    Bob, Just a thought, 25% water change twice a month is way more than needed. I'd say 10% should do just fine. Once you change your bulbs I would try it. It'll save you some money on salt and allow the tank to mature
