I just use some relatively inexpensive LED lights from DiGiKits.com-Electronic Components,LED Moonlight, LED Lighting,PCB Services

They come as strips that you can connect to form the right size. I basically connected strips until they reached 48", then ran them horizontally over the top of my tank. They are not connected to the Tek fixture (which is mounted via legs over top my aquarium), but rather underneath it.

Reefbrite LED's will give you the effect your looking for. They are more pricey but they are amazing. The will also enhance your corals as well. The Icecaps will not give you what you are looking for. The Icecaps are great for night but thats it. You will not even notice a difference with the t-5's on with the icecaps. We have both of these lights in our store and in stock for sale.

I vote Par38 bulbs with 60 or 80 degree optics. From what I've seen they've got great penetrating power, act as a point source and with the optics you should be able to penetrate to the sandbed through the T5's. I agree that standard LED strips will have a hard time penetrating with the T5's running.

Maybe you could get away with a bulb on each side of your tank pointing towards the middle?

I was just looking at the Reef Brite Leds, they are expensive though. Are you saying that the Stunner strips would give me the shimmer with the T5s as well?

I second the reefbrite they are very nice. but as stated much more expensive.

Similar to the Reef Brite are the Powerbrite. I have not used these but alot of positive reviews (stating they will shimmer with main light on) on Marinedepot website.

btw the stunners will give you the shimmer effect even with the main lights on. but I would buy 2-3 strips with that size tank. Extreme shimmer with main lights off. It hardhard to create shimmer with constant light because LED shimmer is just shadows of the light when the water moves but when the t5's are on its harder to see the shimmer because there are less shadows. So the brighter the tank the harder to make the shimmer. But the Stunners at the store shimmer with the t5's on. (I literally left the store 30 minutes ago. lol)

Oh btw. I checked out there giesesman bulb display. I will post what I found on your other thread

We also have the par 38's in the store, I will check for the shimmer effect.

We have our display model over a picotope. I will mess with it this weekend and post what I figure out.
