Led and mh

Had switched out my metal halide for LEDs, any benefit to run mh with LEDs?

 

Will add to the spectrum, but will also heat up everything. What is your setup? Tank size, what kind of coral, etc. Those factors will determine what you need as far as the lighting goes.

What spectrum are the MH and LED? If they're different then the advantage to both would be broader spectrum for the variety of livestock you have.

 

250w ea were the metal halides, radium bulbs, might have wrong brand, LEDs are ai sol whites

 

I don't really see an advantage to using the halides unless your leds do not cover your entire tank well.Alot of people feel that the light spectrum of good quality m/h bulbs will produce better growth while others are quite happy with the results while using led.The leds should bring out the color of your softies and lps better.If used in conjunction the halides could very well dominate and you might lose that color pop.

 

Ditch the Sols and go with a better fixture, I'd make some DIY's with a lot of HV and some TV and RB, maybe some cyan or cool blue.

 

I was only asking about spectrum bc I didn't know if his LEDs were 10k and halide 14k (example) or what they were. I agree the MH would probably drown out any blue LED unless you have a lot of bulbs to match the MH.

 

sure it will add alot to the spectrum, but led's are very sensitive to heat. running them with halides could very well overheat them.
