    Hello,
I have a 30 gal sps dominated tank with the Chinese 120w LEDs on it. I'm thinking of either making a DIY 16" strip of led for supplement, or adding a different type of lighting. What would you recommend; pc, t5, mh, or supplemental led? I have the led hanging but I'll make a canopy if I absolutely have to.

Exactly what LED fixture do you have? What type and colors of LEDs are in there?

Its very easy to make your own supplemental kit from Rapid, you will only need a few different LEDs based off your current light fixture.

    I currently run:
    Blue
    Royal Blue
    Violet
    Cyan
    Cool White
    Neutral White

Supplementing what? Color rendition? Go with some different color LEDs if that is your goal. More light? Maybe another fixture.

I have the chinese dimmable LEDs. I need color rendition, power isn't neccessary, but I can have it because they are dimmable. If i was to go with led strip, I would do just about the same thing as you said. I would have two 3 diode palette called ocean cool white, it has a 420nm blue, 660 red, and a 475 cyan (I think those are the values..). I would also add uv and a little green.

I was thinking maybe 2 pc 13w fixtures on either side of my tank. Ive seen the results of multiple types of fixtures, and I like it.

If you already have White and Blue LEDs in your current light all you really need is Cyan and Violet. Maybe you can order two of these one is UV and another color of your choice.

So if I bought the uv strip from ecoxotic, would I still have to do a DIY for the cyan?

    Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.

That's what I'll be doing then, thanks!

Will that be enough for what I want? I've been worried about the spectrum side of LEDs. Also, is that all I will need? It seems a little too good to be true lol.
