I have 6 extra blue LEDs that I was considering building a 36" strip to use as a supplement to my 2x150 MH setup over my 65g. They are Cree XRE LEDs. I am thinking about doing this instead of getting a T5 actinic supplement . Would it be the equivalent of a single T5 fixture?

It depends on the wattage. If the led's are least 3W I believe they would be more powerful. Two possibilities, when you plug them in with the lights off they will either be real dim or almost blind you.

They are 3 watt Royal Blue Cree XREs on stars.

I had 4 hooked up supplementing on a 30 gallon, an thought it to be too much. 6 should be good on that size tank.
