With Christmas fast approaching, I'm looking to upgrade my reef tank!! I'm thinking of going from a 10 to a 20 gallon long. My only barrier, is lighting, I'm using PCs on my 10, works great on softies, if I went 20 I was thinking about getting a t5 or halide, but LEDs caught my eye, the light gives the crispness, and harshness of the halide, minus the heat, but are they just for supplement? Or can I use LEDs as my primary light? Will I be able to grow lps? Clams? Do the "watts per gallon" principles apply,? I'm researching, bur hearing first hand from other reefers rather than the guy selling them, thanks guys!!!!

2 Ecoxotic Modules (not stunners) will do nicely for a 20 gal. Here is their site; Modular LED Lighting - Products Click on the one you want to check out for the accurate prices.

I have two PAR30 LED's over my 10 gallon and I cant say anything for the growth yet because I havent put corals in. However I do know that they have very high light output and shimmer just like a MH. so far I love them. Look at BoostLED or rapid LED both have great products. I can also say Rapid LED was very fast in their shipping.

I wish I would have gotten them already so I could give a review, but I can't. I will be going with 3 of the Boost par30 LED bulbs over my 29g sps reef. I should get some good par & have the same shimmer you have with metal halide.

...Thinking about going with a DIY CREE build for the moonlights, as Boost bulbs are not dimmable.

I switched from MH's a few weeks ago and I'm now using 3W CREEs to light my entire tank. They definitely put out more light than my old 250W MH's. Everything is still doing just fine, I have a maxima on the sandbed, 24" deep.
