Im very interested in the added light spectrums the LED lights have to offer and also the decreased power usage. Im wondering if anyone has used LED's for a while and how well the work? Maybe if someone can point me in the right direction to some websites or companies that make some cool stuff?

yessssss! your led lightstrip project has inspired me. I have only one worry...... fire. Do you think as long as i use high quality parts and do a patient job on every detail that i can go to work everyday and not worry about my house burning down? hahahah

I would be more worried with MH due to wattage and heat myself.
For leds, good solid connections, proper cooling, and sturdy mounting should be on the top of the to do list.

rapid LED is a new sponsor here... they have awesome products!
I also have LEDs over my tank. I wouldnt go so far as to say that LEDs have a better spectrum that halides because they still lack UV light. if you get specific colors (for example blue) they are extremely centralized in only those narrow wavelengths also.

Im using 60 degree lens and like them. if your going to have a bunch of leds close together 40 degree may be a option depending how high the fixture is over the waterline.
