led lense?

    hey im built a 36 xp-e and xp-g led light for my 40 breeder, its on a 8.5" x 30" heatsink. theres 12 cool white and 24 royal blues, now i have 24 65deg lense, what leds should i put them on? thanks for any opinion

    im putting a hanging kit from rapid led in a canopy so anywhere from 5-8" off the surface

    keep them all on the blues? 12 blue 12 white? just 12 on whites? or just forget about them?

    Cool, keep us posted on the build! I think without the lenses the optics are something like 120deg IIRC. So, the lenses will give specific leds more of a spotlight effect. If you want a spotlight effect, put them on the whites, if you don't the blues. This is because the whites will tend to drown out the blues, so, you won't really notice the effect with the blues. Having some spotlight effect can be cool though, but I would recomend playing around with it and seeing what you like, it really is a personal preference, no one can tell you what is "best", they can only tell you what they like best.

    Also, what are the dimensions of your tank BTW? The lenses will help penetrate deeper, so, this could be important....

    thanks for the interest! ill post what i built so far maybe later today, but the dimentions are 36"x18"16"

    When I was researching I was told to put lenses on all or none and to use the same degree on all the leds.

    for the depth of your tank rapid recommends ~80* lenses..but you could prob get away with what you have..deff use lenses otherwise you will get to much light spilling out and not down..

    Use 80deg optics on all, or go without any optics. Play around and see what is pleasing to your eye.
