+1 I have been looking at DIY and built LED fixtures for 2 months and Finally decided on the AI SOL super blue. They arent cheap, but they are very cheap on the electric bill, and you wont be replacing any bulbs for probably 5-10 years
in your case a 48" tank say 4 bulb t5, thats about $150+ per year, plus they arent quite as efficient so your power will be a bit higher then with LEDs
I would look at rapidled, for DIY, or else Radion, AI SOL, Or Panorama Pro Modules, IMO. Those seem to offer the most color customizing, as well as programming an what not

Hm, well in that case I think I'll try and spring for a DIY led kit, are they fairly simple to put together? Or should I spend the extra cash on a previolt? I like building things myself, but if it's like expert level work, I'll probably never get it done.

depends on your budget, but with youtube it seems like a reasonably easy task to take on if you like that sort of thing! or drop a touch more and have someone like reefwerks build it for you! Check out rapidled.com plug and play kits if you don't like to solder!

Well the wife would kill me if I spent more than 300 on anything for my tanks. I bought a Blue Arrowana a few years back, with a nice 400$ price tag, although I talked the guy down to 200 and that's the only reason I got him.

I'll look into rapidled, hopefully I can get something cause at the moment I have a 48" corallife two bulb T5 on my tank. And I don't think it's working on the live rock to good
