What brand of LEDs are you running? Are your corals all brown?

We've discussed the necessity of adding uv/violet to our systems numerous times, just usually not as a thread to push a specific product ;) Just scroll through some of the threads.

Okay this discussion is really getting crazy. We pull these corals out of the ocean and out of their home so we have to give them the best home for surviving and growing UV CV q.v. I don't care we need to keep talking to find out which is the best for these corals that we love so much I know we spend a lot of money on our tanks and even more money on livestock so let's get it out there let's keep the discussion going I'am sure we will find out the answer soon I'm hoping at least because so far i had my Red Sea Max since January and I know I have spent at least $7000 on extra stuff like LEDs live rock live sand livestock and everything else you can imagine and I know that it is going to go up so I'm looking for the best thing for these animals to survive because the more time they last that's less stuff we have to pull out of the ocean just think if everyone could have their corals last forever that's less we would have to go into the ocean to pull out think about it. Let's find out the best lighting situations gentlemen.Phil

I really hate to say this, but you seem to be way to overly concerned about this topic. Are you trying to push a certain product on us or something? That is how this really coming across. Very good points have been brought up in this very thread where people have had great success without the use of UV lights, and it has been pointed out the UV LED's are expensive and generally not available to the general public and that you are most likely talking about violet light anyways.

Here is my bottom line, if the coral is happy and thriving in our current set ups, then there is no need to try and tell us that UV light is a necessity.

Can't believe this isn't shut down, although, the marketers are getting better at writing their script!;)

You've spent $7k on corals fish equip etc, are obviously pushing a particular product and you have no shots of your tank?

Sorry if you're not pushing this product, but these threads seem rather cookie cutter when you read other forums, and I've read this one numerous times!

Sticksmith,I cannot believe you made the statement you did about me. I haven't mentioned anything about selling anything. I'm just a marine hobbyists trying to learn and give some information to some of the people out there that's with this form is about the person I spoke to is A Marine biologists from Australia I had about a 2 hour conversation with this gentleman. And he knows a lot about LEDs and UV I was just repeating some of the knowledge that he passed down I thought would be nice to let some of the people know what's going on with these LED lighting. As for selling anything I'm in the catering business. I'm just a hobbyist just like you. That was a cheap shot

Kevin, the $7000 I spent all my tank $5000 of it was for the tank alone. it is a Redsea max 650 . I'm really happy that your tank is doing great with your LEDs. right now I have a mixture of LEDs metal halide and T-5 I'm trying to find out which one works best. My tank is only been up since January 20 so it is still new. my other tank I had since October and we had LEDs on it and some of the corals were turning brown. This is when I mentioned this to the Marine biologist. I spoke with him he tried to explain to me why The corals were turning brown. but I think you know the reason so I'm not going to go into it again. you think looks great.Phil
