I'm running a 240L tank which is pretty stable - water parameters in check, soft corals all healthy etc. I have 2xT5 white tubes (20") and 2xT8 actinic blues (28"). These are all installed in the hood of the tank. I'm not keen to go down the path of MH lighting as I want to keep the hood so I'm wondering about swapping some/all of the lights for LED's (maybe TMC AquaBeam).

Does anyone have experience of these lights - will they be sufficient as my main lighting or better to use as a supplement (maybe replacing the T8's)?

    Advice appreciated.

    Thanks

LED technology is constantly improving but the spectra coming from the LEDs is still suspect. I would suggest that you upgrade to a 4 x 24W T5HO unit or one the spans the length of your tank and use ATI Blue Plus and ATI Aquablue Special bulbs. This will greatly improve the PAR in your tank and your fluorescent colors will show up great. This will also give you room to add more light requiring corals in the future.

I agree with 2in10. LEDS will get there, but the time is not quite yet. If you want to spend a lot of $$, you might get the result you want.

I have a guy now running the new Panorama set up with a Stunner power pack I sent him out to him in Dec. for his little JBL tank with all sps in it , He said they are doing well and was going to hold off for a few months and may well get enough panels for his 200 Oceanic But for right now he has just the one 18x22 panel.
