I started out with my ligts 12" off the top and kept fiddeling until i had complete coverage, because LEDs are sort of spotlight like you have to move them up and down, back and forth so you do not burn the corals and you get complete coverage of your tank.

We need more information. Then I can make suggestions. In some cases it's even best to swap out some optics. Give us the tank dimensions, what you are growing and at what heights, and the number of sol units and then if they are sol white or Sol super blue.

AI, have dimming capabilities. If you are putting these on a tank that is coming off of MH or T5HO, then you really need to map out your par in the tank with your old lighting set up then bring the AI to about 80% of that par on the dimmer. (Blue LEDS are undervalued on PAR meters by as much as 25%)

You raise and lower to affect spread/aesthetics not to affect par/pur.

Glass tops can stop up to 20% of the light going through them. I would suggest replacing the top with BRS clear netting. You will be able to place the LED at a height that gets good spread with all of the light's benefits and better gas exchange on your tank for a more stable pH.

I did not know about the glass tops blocking that much light or about the clear netting. Cool

Would you be able to do this on a rounded edge?
