I have a 180gal tank and I bought AI LED lights for it, I have 4 modules running on the tank right now and I have more cyano algae than I have ever seen in my life. Is it possible that the lights are helping the algae to grow? I keep my water parameters in check I test weekly and everything is normal but this stuff keeps growing. I have been dosing it with ZEOzym, Coral Snow and ZEObak because I figured I was lacking the proper bacteria in the tank but none of these seem to affect it at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, cyano is due to accumulation of detritus and organics. You have cyano, so, you are feeding the tank more organics and detritus?

By the way, I have LEDs in 3 tanks, 2 are all LED, one LED + MH and not seen much cyano at all in the all LED tank, although, there was a small amount in the MH +LED tank. This has nothing to do with the metal halide though, it is because there are more fish in the MH tank. Cyano loves urea :)

You need to stop feeding it, and start removing the cyano and it's food source. Vacuum all you can from the rocks while removing water for a WC (best to use just the hose w/o the gravel-vac attachment). Use a turkey baster to blast detritus from under the rocks. Vacuum loose detritus and uneaten food from the surface of the sand and rocks. Run GFO to reduce phosphates.

It may take a little time since you have so much, but remain vigilant and it will eventually disappear.

I been having the same issue. For awhile it seemed the Cyano was losing it's grip, but suddenly it came back full strength. If it is caused from those 2 things, fish waste and uneatten food, my solution to rid it is easy then. I will remove the fish. All 3 of them. I cut back feeding to once a day and even missed a day from time to time. At least that's my answer for now.

I haven't had any algae issues in my tank with LEDs. Your parameters may be coming across in check, but that's likely because the bacteria is taking it in almost immediately.

I appreciate everyones help with my Cyano outbreak which has been driving me nuts for a couple of months now. I think I have found the answer to my problem, about the same time I bought my LED lights I bought a big Unicorn Tang and he eats a ton of food and I was being careful on how much I feed him and I feed him by hand as to not create a whole lot of left over food, and the other fish eat the crumbs he leaves behind but what I failed to notice is the output of my skimmer. My skimmer has been producing no skimate (not sure if that's a real word) even though I have a big bio load in the tank. All of my parameters are perfect on my tank but the protein must have been sticking to the other molecules so well that my skimmer couldn't separate them. Yesterday I decided to dose my tank with vinegar and what a massive difference one day makes, my skimmer is going bonkers removing junk. So I think my long term solution is to invest in a GFO reactor. I also changed my light cycle too just incase, I now run my LED's on a different cycle. 9am to 12pm the lights ramp up to 80% white, 87%blue 95%royal blue then 3pm to 7pm the lamps ramp down to the lunar cycle.
