I am getting ready to place the order for a new DIY led fixture from rapid. It will be 36 leds 24 blue and 12 white. now i was thinking to give that extra pop to to order 8 uv ones and 4 red ones for that extra pop and put that on a 1inch heat sink behind my main led fixture. what does everyone think about this. any help would be great.

Just wondering if this is worth it or stick with the blue and white leds

I have a 65G tall tank and was about to do the same setup!!

36LED kit 14 Cool White, 20 Royal blue and 2 Red + 8 UV kit. But I'm going to put those on two 4x16 heat sink. For the whole tank.

My tank is currently run 250W MH and (2) 90W actinic. (One just went dead bad ballast) and all bulb need to be replace...so I figure go with LED. =) I'll place an order today and hope fully get it some time next week! Can't wait to put it on the tank!

I'd add the uv's on the same heat sink to save some money! I'm hearing mixed reviews on the red's! Enjoy your order! Its really easy just time consuming!

i am not worried on heat sinks i want the best light i can for my coral so i was curious if adding a few red and green LEDS would help or they aren't needed

Those colors are erlatively new, I'm reading a split on necessity! It certainly isn't going to hurt anything! i'd probably just do the uv's for now, wait a bit and read up them!

I recommend the added colors. After using just whites, and royal blues, i found a lot of my corals, the Green just came out so much, was the brightest out of all the colors. When i added the reds, I noticed more color develope on the sps. And when i added UV and Turqouise to it, this made the blues, pinks, oranges, and every other color just pop.

*I notice only improvement on color not growth since adding colored leds. Growth i find comes from rb and whites.

heres some pics of what my build puts out, i get a lot of colors that pop besides the greens.
