DIY, boost makes some incredible DIY kits or PAR-38 bulbs that will work nice for you. Also, I suppose it will depend on what you want to keep, if it's fish only get a Marineland LED or stunner strips on something on the more affordable side,if you want anything else, the price will go up.

Then you'll need some good lighting. How much do you want to spend on them?

I looked into DIY and decided against it. I found that most DIY jobs look bad. Furthermore I'm okay with a few hundred bucks extra to avoid the headache of figuring out how to do it. I like the look of AI units, check out the upcoming AI vega coming out this fall (supposedly) for around $500 or radion if you have a pile of money to blow.

Im not a big fan of the Marineland fixture at all. I have a retro fit kit from rapid led and love it. Install was easy with the plug and play and the customer service was good and friendly. I hear good things about boost as well, I actually bought their controller....love it.
