I just got back into the saltwater hobby and now looking at lighting solutions for my 150G. Dimensions are 72x18x29. Not sure the difference between 40* vs 60* optics, how many LEDs will I need, etc. If it's not too difficult and I can save money, I will consider going the DIY route. I'm no handyman so if this requires more in depth skills to complete a DIY LED setup, then I may have to go for an All-in-One setup. Few questions for the LED enthusiasts:

Will I achieve the same shimmering effect with an LED setup?

How many LEDs do you suggest? Should I break them off into three heatsinks or one large 72" heatsink? Do they even make those?

I have a canopy on the tank, so I'd like the LEDs mounted within the canopy. Will I run into spotting?

How much $$$ am I saving by going the DIY route as opposed to an AllinOne setup?

What are the components needed for an LED setup? LEDs, heatsink, drivers, and controller. Anything else?

As always, thanks in advance for any advice. LEDs is a new thing for me in the sw hobby, so advice is welcome.

Thanks for quick response. Have you had experience with these? If so, would these be suitable for a tank that measures 29" high? The fixtures show to be suitable for tanks that are 24" high. Any ideas?

At 29" we would recommend 60 degree optics. 3 fixtures with 60 degree optics would cover your tank, and allow for sps growth to the sandbed, so be sure to dim them at first.
