I'm looking for LED options for my newly purchased 40 breeder. I was going to go with Tek T5's but after the BoostLED's I've put on my 10g I really want to go with LED. I just haven't been able to find a comparable priced LED option that will cover the 40b dimensions. If anyone has ideas or suggestions I'd appreciate it.

As a side note I have NO electrical experience and not so sure a DIY project would be up my alley...

2 AI Sol Blues. That is the best option out there. Otherwise, you could try 4 PAR38s.

Yeah that's a bit harder on the pocket book compared to the Tek's though.

My best option may be T5's and supplemental LED's. Would the T5's wash out the shimmer and pop that LED's give though?

Depends on how powerful the LEDs are. Here is a good example:
47G Rimless T5/LED Hybrid SPS Tank - Manhattan Reefs
It is DIY though. I would do a T5 retrofit in a canopy, with LED strips from www.reefledlights.com. These seem easier to DIY because you oly need to soder the strips together, not the individual LEDs. Or 2 of these and 3 T5 retros: SUNBRITE LIGHTING SYSTEMS INC-T10 Tubes

I took my T5's (supplementing my LEDs) because of this reason. I didn't have a lot of shimmer with the T5s, and my colors weren't as vibrant. I took the T5's off, replaced them with some more LEDs, and love it!

I recently tested a Sunshine Systems Aqua UFO on my 40 breeder and it did an amazing job. Spread to all four corners was amazing, and intensity was awesome. I don't want to link drop, so if you search "sunshine aquaufo" you will find a review.
