My tank dimensions are 46x16x16 (weird hexagon shape) acrylic. Whichever LED's i choose will be contained in a hood and will sit about 4" above the water.

I want to keep LPS/SPS mix and I was wondering if I could get away with 1 ebay 120w dimmable.

The reason I ask, is because by my estimation/other posts, I will be good to go with a 36 LED kit from RapidLED and that totals 108W.

My 2 concerns are light spread and PAR (on the ebay lights)

With the RapidLED i will put it on 2 heatsinks to spread the light evenly over the tank. With the ebay enclosure it will be centered.

I have read mixed results (alot of good ones mind you!) about the 3w LED ebay lights but if I need to buy 2 of them to achieve what i could do with 1 36 kit from RapidLED I'd rather do that since they will be about the same price.

You think I even need optics? I think I could go no optics because the lights are going to be so close to the water... I think they are 120 degree spread without optics right?

What is the purpose of violets and cyans, aesthetics or proper coral growth?
