New to the board and have been reading for the past 2 months, but I cant seem to find this answer out.

I have a 75g setup and are looking at purchasing the the apallo leds. I have read about PAR and these leds seem to be right about where I want to be. Right now I have PC 4/65w that I got when I set the tank up. Got a great deal on them used at the time. I want to be able to have a reef tank and know that the PC will not handle it. I want to stay away from MH b/c of the heat and the room that the tank is in gets hot in the summer. I was thinking of getting 2 setups from them and hang them about 8" up. Start the light out slow so I dont ruin anything in the tank.

Let me know what you think...thanks

I know this isn't helping out all that much because ive never heard of those LED's you listed, but i was thinking when i get my 75 gallon tank going, and when i have the money, that i was going to get 2 boostled MU lights. either that or a DIY from rapid led.

It all depends on your budget. Some new LED's coming out aren't cheap as im sure your aware of. but they will last a long time and def make your corals happy. Most are modular now, meaning they can be upgraded as new stuff comes out. major selling point if your going to shell out a few hundred if not thousands for these lights.

Do research and look at tanks that have different LED's on them. Few 3reefers have both that i mentioned and have had great experiences with em.

Hopefully someone here has experience/knowledge of those apallo LED's your looking at, but if i were you i would keep my doors open because this new technology is growing and fast.

the Apolos look good, but I'd probably wait for the dimables. Basically, you'll want around 200W with 60 deg optics. It depends what you want to keep though, may need a bit more or maybe could get away with a bit less. It isn't fixed, but a fixture close to those specs should do.
