I bought a 48inch 18k with the blue moonlight Marineland reef led lighting for my 90 gallon...and to tell you the truth...once I mounted them...my corals weren't very happy...they stopped stretching out...their colors weren't as vivid as they were under my t5's.Simply..not enough intensity.I.M.O. It's gonna be a while before l.e.d replaces T5HO's. just a little foot note..I don't run this lighting anymore for 2 reasons...#1 lack of light light intensity and #2 this fixture is small and thin...but produces a lot of heat,so much heat that if i keep it on for more then 5 hours...the a.v wire (power cord)that's connected to the fixture itself starts to melt because of the heat coming from the casing. Ive contacted the product department they told me not to keep it running for that long...(S.M.H) after reading that i asked for a refund....they have yet to write me back...but that's not surprising to me...the payment was received and that's all they really care about...sadly.

I found this interesting. You say the there is a lack of intensity, how do you know? If you don't have a light meter I take it you are guessing because of what you see with the coral, however, more intensity will make the coral less apt to have to expand or stretch up to get light so you are getting more intensity not less. This is a "Reef Capable" unit correct? The cord melting tells me there is something wrong with the power supply. It is over driving the unit. My Reef Capable Marineland does get hot but does not raise aquarium temp and certainly doesn't melt the cord! They owe you a new one.

As you know, I have the unit and it is "good", however, it can, in a shallow application, be more of a concentrated light instead of a distributive one.

Well I don't have a light meter.I wish i did..they don't light up my whole living room the way my t5's do...I followed all the recommended height,I centered it. After 2 or three days I noticed my 2 of my 4 anenomes that were at the bottom of the tank just weren't coming out anymore...and the 2 that were coming were moving closer to the light but still wouldn't expand the way they used to...as well as their vivid color started to fade...I know they shrivel up when and turn an ugly color when they produce waste...but this went on for 3 days...I knew something was wrong..they wouldn't expand not even for feeding...which started to worry me...I double the dosage of iodine that day...I tested my water everything was at zero,so I decided to turn on my t5's for about 10 hours straight...just to see if my theory was correct...After 2 days of being back under my t5's, they were fully expanded and starving.Maybe my corals just got used to my t'5s..It was clear to me they were a lot happier with the t5's.Maybe it was just a bad unit I bought...because it's obvious to me there's a problem with the power pack...but as I said they still haven't contacted me in regards to this matter...and I hate lawyers...so I guess I'm just gonna eat the loss...and consider it a lesson learned.
