Thinking of making the switch to a marineland LED hood system from my fluorescent set up now. Planning on adding a few corals later down the road. Any tips or systems you would use instead. Really prefer the hood over free hanging lights or light stands.

I have the Reefbreeders LEDs and love them so far. I know they are hanging, but originally they were planning on making a mount for them. I believe they have scrapped that idea. I also don't like the hanging idea. I think I am going to build a shelf above teh tank then hang the lights from that. At least that way I won't have the massive buch of cables running from my ceiling and I will have a shelf to store food and test kits on, out of the reach of my kids.

marineland led and corals dont go together. they should only be used for FOWLR really.
i would look into reefbreeders leds, and then look online here and other forums to see mounting options, ive seen alot of creative ways to do it.

right now im running x2 18 inch T8s. the only reason im pretty particular about the hood system is i have problems with evaporation in my hospital tank. would an LED strip across the back with the T8s do the trick

What are you trying to accomplish here? Are you housing coral, is this a fish QT? Bulb changes to expensive? Looking for better color lighting? Ebergy expenses too much? Poor coral growth? What size is this tank?

You can use class lids if you want to slow evaporation, but sealing your tank isn't good for air transfer.
