well i finally got around to buying a propper in sump protien skimmer
and expected to get home drop it in and that would be that

would u believe the skimmer was half inch to big to fit between the roof of the stand and the sump

so it took me 5 hours to empty 300 litres of water about 20 kgs of live rock and about the same of base rock whilst keepin in mind i had fish and inverts crawling around the tank, so i could move the whole setup off the wall, take the back off the stand to remove the sump so i could add the new skimmer and then put it all back together

i must say im shocked that i did not loose any life stock at all considering the temp dropped qite a bit and the general stress of it all

im glad i did it now before i added the 15 kgs of live rock and rest of the stock i have planned to be added

huge lesson learned i hope i never have to repeat that again!!

might want to pay attention, since when you add live rock it could throw off the balance of your parameter

Reminds me of trying to fit a 20 long under my stand(new refugium). I had to take part of my stand apart. I also had to use a sawzall to cut one of the supports. Pretty sketchy using a gnarly saw on stand with a full tank + all the other weight while being directly under it doing the cutting. I like the perserverance.

yeah pretty scary stuff my heart was racing the whole time when i removed the back panel because the back support is attatched to it so there was no support at all in the back center of the stand even with 95 pct of everythnig removed out of the tank the 20mm base board directly under the tank and foam had a bow in it

irronically we baught the heater and return pump when we picked the tank up both of which u could throw at the tank from a distance and they would land in the sump instead of buying the skimmer and putting it in the sump before the tank was filled

    u live u learn i guess
