Unfortunately I found the first fish I bought for my SW today dried up on the floor. I have a lid on my DT to prevent this. When I feed I open it and it is open till I'm done feeding (I make a few trips back and forth from the kitchen). I had to pick up a puppy for my father in law yesterday and got back late. I feed quickly and was keeping an eye on the puppy. He must have got goosed by another fish and jumped out when I wasn't looking. The lid will always be down now if I'm not there to monitor things. Just FYI cause I didn't think it would happen.

Welcome to the club. I've been lucky so far and dig him out of the overflow and off the floor a couple times. I don't turn my back on him anymore.

Happens to all of us, even when we think, that won't happen to me.

What fish was it? I lost a longnose hawkfish to this, and a firefish was in the back chamber of my biocube for 3 weeks without my knowing. lol

It was a clown fish. Yea I had a blue/green chromis that went in the overflow a few times. He didn't recover after the last time. I find I get a little attached to the SW fish because they have character. He would eat from your hand. Never had a fish do that.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Lost my 5 year old male clown from leaving the lid up for 10 minutes one night. :-(. I had heard the clowns hit the lid at night numerous times over the years, it only takes once. Lost a Blue Spotted Jaw fish to a hole in the lid the size of nickle, I'll never figure that one out, expensive lesson.

Clownfish have definitely earned their name, funny little fish. Sorry about your loss. With time you can train just about any SW fish to eat out of your hands.

Good to know. I can't put my hand in the tank without my cleaner and peppermint shrimp cleaning my arm and fingernails lol.
