If you ever hear a L/G making and sound or vibrations then you have something wrong . Best vibration padding I ever found aside from cork like we set air handlers on was some simple Styrofoam .. I like to keep a little of the aluminum backed anti mold treated sheathing from Dow . Its usually always some scrap laying around a Job site ..

It sounded very quiet for the few seconds I ran it. I don't expect any problems, but my stand has no walls or doors. Just something preventive more than anything else.

    Thanks for the advice, Tangster.

So to your experience, is the L/G a decent pump?

Getting ready to swap out the soft white underbelly. I think the dual sump/'fuge was a good idea in theory; but it's got no mechanical filtration. I read somone's thread that won a tank of the month on some other forum more than 2 years ago. It was a very impressive tank, and his hyper water movement worked for him. He wrote that he simply collected the detritus from a few areas on the sand where it accumulated. It sounded like a great plan, but simply didn't work for me. My detritus seemed to collect everywhere, and the sump was particularly succeptible to copius amounts of the stuff.

So, turning the page, moving on--here we go. I'm going to use my old Wet/Dry converted to a sump. It sits before the existing homemade sump in the second pic. It took some doing to remove the two factory acrylic baffles from the Wet/Dry, but an hour's watching TruBlood on HBO armed with a hacksaw blade was sufficient to pass the time and shave them off.

I'm still working crazy hours, but decided to give the swap a try tonite. I fell short of completion, but the rest can wait until tomorrow. The 90 currently houses just the powder blue tang and all the LR, so I'm sure it'll fare with no fatalities for 24 hours.

Here's some "before," or, "old," pics.

I have never used mechanical/chemical filtration on my current set-up sparky. Unless, you want to be technical and count protein skimming as mech.
