I have a 46 gallon with 2 oscellaris clowns, 1 mandarin and an orange back wrasse. For the past few days the wrasse is not coming out to swim even when I feed the tank. I don't know if he is eating at all? I see him in different areas in back of rocks so he is alive. I have not added anything new so I can't figure out why he is acting like this. Ph is 7.8 - 8, alk is 9-10, calcium is 420 and temp is 78-79. I used 1/4 teaspoon kalk to 1/4 gallon water morning and night for top off water. He used to be out in the open all the time except when the lights go out then he would go in back of the rocks. Now he is not coming out from the back. Any ideas?

My six-lined wrasse did this also, to the point were i thought he might have died so I started lifting rock out to look for his corpse then all of the sudden he jumped out of a rock and hit the floor

Lesson learned here, do lift a rock completely out of the water.

Wrasse fish can be funny that way. They feed on pods a lot so it may have taken to eating those vs flake or whatever you feed. You may have problems down the road having a mandarin and a wrasse in a 46 gallon tank. Keep an eye on them for starvation.

If that is the only fish that is acting strangely I would not be too concerned right away. I would watch closely though for a while.

    Good Luck

    Orange Back Wrasse

I have had this Wrasse for at least 6 months along with the clowns. Today I can not see him but I have seen him every other day in the back of rocks. Maybe I should try a different food to see if he comes out?

I think that hes being bullied around, that would explain why hes hiding. Luna

    Orange back Wrasse

I can see him peeking out of a rock. I think the bigger clown is bullying him. The wrasse is still bigger than he is at least length wise.
