Sorry i havent been around for a while but due to a heart attack I havent been doing much of anything.
I would be interested in seeing how everyone has wiried there reef tanks. My big question is should any wiring be inside the cabinet oe everything mounted on the back or in a seperate cabinet. Im debating about at least having my timers inside the cabinet so I can keep track of the setting and the times.
    Any experts out there.

Sorry to hear about your illness. I am also 53 and lost my brother in law three years ago to heart failure at 54. Makes you sit back and think.

My setup, albiet a small one is all inside my cabinet. I installed a GFCI oulet on the wall and have 2 power strips plugged into that. All of the power cords have been hung with drip loope before they enter the cabinet, and there is a 2 inch lip all around the cabinet top so any spills do not get inside. The power strips are screwed to the underside of the cabinet top so any thing that does get inside is away from electrics. I am plannin on putting in a fuge and that will be in the cabinet on the opposite end with a fully sealed divider between.

;D Sorry to hear of your heart attack! My hubby had one at age 38...he has 3 stents now and is good as new. Keep your chin up, the next several months will be difficult, as you emotionally go through the 'process'...it is quite scary!

    Take care of yourself!

This is my 4th one First one was at age 49. I have 4 stents and now they have found a Murmur also. I keep on plugging away. Anyway I getting some feeling on how I want to wire mine up. The only thing that I have done so far is 2 dedicated line for the tank. One is 20amp and the other 15 amps.

Didn't you tell me after the last one that you just keep having these so you can get the wife to do all the work around home?
Oh well, four down, only five left. Have to pace yourself, Al.
And WHO said reefing wasn't stressful.

The number one cause of fire with reef tanks and reptile tanks as well, is multi outlet strips. FWIW, most aren't made to run 24/7, plus, having open outlets lends to salt creep and possiable fire/shock hazard. When I worked in retail, I had 3 different clients burn their house down. I, myself, make all my outlet strips using nema dual gang outlet boxes and only Aube timers. Timers are another failling point, most don't have the guts (contacts) to handle larger metal halides or just even larger loads.

If I can find a pic, I'll post one of my set-up. Nothing like what my next set-up will be like, buts that a hole nother ball of wax to talk about (PLC all the way :D)

Tap tap tap. That's my foot waiting for the pics.

I'm not even going to talk about my wiring. It's something I've needed to invest some time in for months now

Here are some pics, the first is under my tank upstairs, the rest are in the crawl space. Everything in the crawl space is on a dedicated 20 amp circuit. Also, all of the outlets in the crawl space are elevated to avoid contact with water.
