So it's that time of the year again when we all need to make sure our heaters are working at their best, just like our furnaces.

I currently have two heaters in my tank (50 Watt & 150 Watt) with a total water volume of 25 gallons. Just recently I installed a Apex and have been monitoring my temp daily and it has come to my attention my tank gets down to 77.0F (and dropping) when my apartment is at 58F.

I was wondering what a good heater would be for my current situation, my thoughts are since the heater is controlled by my Apex I really have no need to spend extra $ on a heater with a fancy temp monitoring system.

I would like to keep my tank at a nice 77.6F when my apartment is near 55F.

(Just for the record, I LOVE to have a cold house when sleeping, 55F is pretty much near heaven for me. I know it may be weird but give it a try before you bash ;) )

heck I have a portable air conditioner next to my bed and the weather is 48 degrees outside. It is on mega cool so I understand. With the apex, I might just increase the temp setting on the 150 a tad. I hate heaters........there isnt a brand I would recommend at this point!

Just get one heater. Jagers are always good. But I liked my Hydors too. The Apex takes all the worry out. Get one bigger and save a outlet. You might find one 200w to be enough. But that is a lot of juice for a 28g. I used 700w on my 120ish system, but it had a big sump in a cold room in the winter. But if you are in a meat locker, you might need a 300w. ;)

Right now 250 watts can't keep up, I might need another 300 or find a 500 watt heater and hope that does the job.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll look into those brands, I just want a good heater that won't blow up in my tank ;)

I run a 300w titanium Aqua Via with controller on my 65 with 29g sump,it's fairly brand new,so we'll have to see about reliability, but so far it's very accurate with a less than 1 deg temp swing (I read temp with an industrial/contractor quality,Fieldpeice Instruments, digital thermometer) and the heater is very accurate.About $35,so far i'm more than pleased with it.

OMG you are such a drama queen. .6 degrees is something that worries you alot? I thought it was like 5-6 the way you were carrying on.

Queen or not my friend I am preparing for any type of furnace failure. If my apartment can hit 55 in 2 hours just imagine how cold it can get overnight without heat.

I know .6 is nothing but its a calling sign of a upcoming problem that could result in crashing during the upcoming cold months.

Thats true. I remember a few time where I lost power in the deep of winter's cold. I had to wrap blankets around my tanks.

if you are dropping .6 then you can raise the apex temp by .6 or 1 degree and offset the problem without a new heater.

That sucks! I hope to never have that problem. Last year we lost heat once and it was a pretty cold night, since I didn't have my apex installed I can't imagine what the tank was with a 50 watt heater installed.
