Does anybody have any experience with lettuce sea slugs? My LFS have them in stock and I was considering getting one. I was wondering if other things like fish and crabs would bother them?

What kind of fish do you have? They tend to just shrink up and die eventually. We had one for a year, but in the end, it wouldn't thrive. We moved him to other tanks, but it didn't help.

I've heard of many people keeping them, and then they slowly just start to die. They do eat hair algae though, and they should be really good at it, but i think its when they run out, they wont accept any food other that hair algae, and if your tank has run dry on that, they'll just starve :( Never heard of anyone who have kept them for a longer time, actually never heard of that.

No they can eat some other algae types like Byropsis.

I have had a couple of these, and am actually thinking about getting a couple now. Like said, they usually will starve to death after a while, and if at all possible you should talk with your LFS and see if you can return them once the algea problem has been resolved. In my experience they eat hair algea and one of the few things that will actually eat bryopsis. Unfortunately neglected my tank and have a major bryopsis outbreak and hence why I am wanting one

I recently had one for about four months in my 65 gallon tank. It ate everything it could find in the tank. When I was slacking on cleaning, finals weeks at college, it would chow down on the algae on the glass. It randomly disappeared a few weeks ago. I assume it died but I never found it. Fish never bothered it though nor did any crabs.

The slugs in my LFS seem to be about 1-1.5 inches. Some are bright green and some are brownish-green. They seem interesting to watch but I will wait until I have a little more experience.
