    I clean it out every 2 weeks. Do I need it as I here it can be a nitrate factory. How do make a refugium.

    Making a refugium would be a bit complicated - acrylic is a pain to work with if you have no experience. I would suggest buying a premade one, like one of the first 2 here.

    You don't really need the canister, unless you have nowhere else to put carbon. Every 2 weeks is ok, but more often is better. Some people say every other day.
