I bought a "zoanthid" and sun coral from my LFS yesterday. Upon research, I bought a Goniopora. Has anyone here sucsessfuly kept one, and if so, what are you feeding it?

Thanks a bunch. Its a beautiful coral and I would hate for it to pass on my lack of education.

Both sun corals and Goniopora are notoriously hard to keep.

They are certainly not "starter" corals.

Sun Corals need target feeding...Gonipora

    Good Luck.

yea when i first strated i bought a huge goniopora colony from the lfs for dirt cheap not knowing what it was. later i found out that longevity in captivity is rare. here is a link that can better explain than me Goniopora.org:::Goniopora Reference Web Site . as far as the sun coral just put it in a place that you can target feed easily and they are not so hard to keap alive.

    Goni

That website that CrappyBaller listed is an excellent website for goni.
I've had my goni for about 3 months I've have been fighting off brown jelly on
it for about a month, it's hard to get rid of once they get it.

Goniopora is very difficult to maintain and keep long term! Most people can look for the coral to live for a matter of months not years before it succumbs to polyp recession and RTN-leaving behind, just its calcium carbonate golf ball shaped skeleton! Lighting which has been associated with the demise of the coral originally, has been overturned by many specialists, with lack of proper nutrients/food being the culprit now...
At any rate, not a good beginner or intermediate coral! The sun coral is a better alternative as light is not an issue at all, due to its non reliance on light for food(non-photosynthetic-heterotrophic/ahermatypic). Target feeding is a must for the benefit and long term success of this coral and overall quality of your water!
