I'm curious because one of my damsels is completely MIA. I'm assuming he jumped and was eaten by our herd of cats.

I currently have the "flap" part of a glass lid covering the front of my tank, and the lighting I have covers most of the rest, but there is the typical 4" gap between the water & lights, leaving room for a well placed jump to end on the floor.

I used to have FW and am used to certain types jumping, but just started SW, so I'm curious what everyone else typically does.

    Thanks!

I agree with RC.. Glass lids one hold in unwanted summer heat & two restrict lighting after a couple of weeks do to salt build up..

Yeah, that was my thinking, that it would be an extra layer for the light to penetrate.

Are mesh/grate lids pretty commonly used? I'm thinking maybe I can use the "egg-crate" light grids they have at Lowes or Home Depot to cover the rest of the open area.

+1 definitely should have at least a mesh lid. Some jump more than others, but all fish are capable of jumping.

not there type of mesh it alloys light to pass through with hardly any blocking of the light plus you can remove the glass lid all togther

1/4" pond netting will not block any significant amount of light. You can build an aluminum frame for it from home depot for a few bucks. I'm not seeing it at reefcleaners.org ? I think rc_mcwaters3 meant Bulk Reef Supply? I know they sell it. I got mine from watergarden.com before I learned BRS sold it.
