Life Expectancy of a Filter Sock

    I don't use them at all. Just think of all of the food you are catching in them. the waste doesn't become dangerous until it desolves and then it's time for your skimmer to play. There are tons of critters in your system that need this stuff.

    So you just run your skimmer and no filter sock on the return to the sump? Hmm, might try this.

    Well tonight is the first time I'm running without a filter sock, so lets see how this goes.

    If I dont run a filter sock on my skimmer I get micro bubbles in the tank due to the lack of space for a big enough sump to baffle a bubble trap in.Luckily I have a friend locally whos mom hand makes filter socks at 2 bucks a pop. I just use them and trash them when they get dirty. I also turn off my return pump when I feed the tank so there is nothing really of benefit being caught in the socks. I have more than enough LR to make up for the few pods I may lose.
