My friend and I were at our LFS yesterday and while we were there he asked if he needed to add a uv sterilizer to his system (he has had some ick issues or something else on his Clownfish and lost 3 so far). The owner said yes it will take care of parasites and he sold him a 25 watt Aqua Step for $85.
Does anyone have experience with this unit?
I don't know if he hooked it properly either. Right now he has it pulling water out of his wet/dry filter and dumping it right back into it. It doesn't sound right to me. I would think it should pull from the sump and then into the return line going into the tank myself but I could be wrong...
Anyways can you tell me if this is a good unit for a 75g tank. If so I am going to go buy 1 today because I see they actually sell for around $190 and I cant pass that deal up.

if he currently has ich then yes, but don't use it regularly, just when the fish show signs of ich. it will uv to death anything in the water column, good or bad. I should say anything that can be killed by uv will be killed. I'd rather use uv than chemicals

any return or supply line should be fine. it will take a few days to cycle it all. he should notice a difference in the fish within 3 days(for the better)

+1 Only use when needed. Some people will tell you it kills bad bacteria and only "some" good bacteria because you have lots of good bacteria in your DT still.. I would like to suggest that you will always have some "bad" bacteria in your DT as well... so UV is not the solution to getting rid of bad bacteria.. It's a temporary fix IMO. That's a good deal though if i found the correct UV sterilizer.
