Just wanted to start a thread to journal my experiences with a new (well, ok I got it used) skimmer. It's rated for 200 gallons and driven by a Mag 9.5 pump with a Mazzei injector.

This came highly reccomended by the president of my local MAS club. Here is a pic of the beast, sitting next to what it's replacing. I've learned my lesson, you just shouldn't skimp on your skimmer! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I just got it up and running, and I am impressed so far. The air intake for the venturi runs into the collection cup which is supposed to cut down on the smell and make it quiet. Don't know about the smell (yet), but it is extremely quiet! That little Jebo made a whole heck of a lot more noise. I can't hear the LifeReef over the sound of my overflow (which is pretty quiet itself).

And yes, the thing is a beast! Good thing I just jumped in on a group order of Cyclop-eeze, I have the feeling that phytoplankton is going to be removed pretty quickly now.

Ahh.. I see the air intake line now.. that's wild. Take a pic when you get some skimmate.

Don't have a pic of skimmate yet as I had the skimmer off for 2 days while treating with Chemi-Clean, but I have to say I am extremely impressed with this thing. It is quiet as can be and generates lots of nice, dry foam. Adjustment is simple via a single valve and the amount of micro-bubbles in the return is very low. If you have the $$$ to shell out, or find one used at a great price as I did, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the purchase. Truly art in motion.

10 days of service, minus the 48 hours I had it shut off, and this is how it looks today.
