I'm looking for some help on light choices.

I have a 24"x24"x18" tank (sold as a 45gal). I plan to have SPS and certainly want a clam.

I have an opportunity to purchase a Current outer orbit 1x150MH 10k with 2x96w PC actinic (plus 4 lunar LED). I think this will be a perfect fit (other than the argument of MH vs fluorescent). I guess my reservations become a personal preference on wattage consumption and bulb life if I want to stay away from MH and go fluorescent (and perhaps the shimmer affect discussion).

I likely will go ahead with the this lighting system (granted it is not produced anymore), however I'd like to understand:

    1. The point source issue of MH "cone kill zone". I understand that the source will emenate from the bulb as a cone (compared to that of the flourecent tubes) however my assumption (and only my assumption) of this statement as it would apply to my set up is this may be more of a concern with the higher wattage MH. Do I have to worry about this?

    2. Any other recommendations if I want to stay Flourecent only?
    Thanks!

    Essentially Yes. 2ft x 2ft, but 18" in depth.

I was somewhat looking for a pull out of the box, mount on top of the tank, plug in and it works, however I'm game to listen to ideas. Are these covered under the DIY section?

    Thanks

I think the Current outer orbit should meet your needs.
