How many of you have kept an anemone for any length of time under medium lighting. medium lighting = 2-65 watt flourescent and 2-65 watt Actinic. If you have been successful please post here. and tell what part of the aquarium the anemone stayed top mid-section bottom and type of Anemone. I want one but really am trying to avoid getting t-5s for this tank. its a 55 gallon soft coral and am saving for a 90 then I will get good lights for it...thnx for any and all input...

not sure on if you have enough 4.71watts per gallon isn't too bad imo. i'm sure someone else will chime in. I have 5.88 watts per gallon in my 180 and my lta is loving it. here is a pic old pic from 12/28/08.

The WPA rule pretty much doesn't exist anymore and is a bad way of measuring whether you have enough light or not. If you're holding out on lights, then wait to get an anemone, too. Your current lights won't support one.

A month is no where near long enough to tell if you could keep one succesfully. They can take much longer than that to dwindle. Mine lasted longer than that under a one bulb PetCo hood.
Are these PC's or T5's on your tank?

I wouldn't attempt the anemone under the PC lighting you are describing.

I kept a green BTA under the 4 PC bulbs that you are describing in a 72 gal bowfront for about a year. It wasn't happy and kept shrinking. It eventually let go with its foot a couple of times and started rolling around on the sand too. I started feeding it and upgraded to T5s 6x54W and it is much much happier. Not sure if feeding it under PCs would be adequate.

    Thanks Pack, my thoughts exactly.

Even more proof that a month doesn't matter.

And to solidify the point; I had a clam for 8 months before it died. Literally the clam was there one night, and the next morning it's shell was completely empty. I had it under MHs, even. 6 months into it I could have said "Oh I know I have the right conditions for a clam" but obviously I didn't.

I don't know what this slug is that you say took out your nem and crabs. Could you elaborate on that?

If these are PC's, you do not have medium lighting. You have low, low lighting. If they were T5's they would still be considered medium-low. Just something to consider when looking into lighting requirements.

Not trying to put words in his mouth, but if I remember right it was a cucumber that nuked the tank.

Well I guess I'll wait to see what he says, but if it was a cucumber, then that would kill EVERYthing. Further solidifying the fact that a month isn't enough time to declare success in anemone keeping. ESPECIALLY that of a Sebae.
