I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what anomones are consider easy to keep/beginner species? I see tons Florida Condy's at several LFS here for never more that $9 (most are priced around $6-$8 ) and was thinking either this is a beginners/easy anemone or they reproduce like crazy. I'm about 6 months away from even considering a anemone and I'm not positive I have enough lighting (4x24watt T5). Just curious.

It was a cucumber, he had a thread about it. He's since had to start over I believe. His LFS told him it would be fine and it nuked his tank within a couple of days I believe. LFS was out for a sale - wouldn't offer any assistance after the fact. Luckily he found 3reef for good info!

Condy's are the easiest, but I wouldn't consider any anemone easy/beginer level.

Eh, I think this is apples and oranges. The cucumber demise is separate from knowing how the anemone was doing otherwise.

But I completely agree you won't know if the anemone is successful or not in only a month (or six).

Lighting is one issue but you should take a look at the husbandry and compatibility requirements required by the many anemones available. Some are definitely more demanding than others and some research, understanding and knowledge should be employed before choosing an anemone for an aquarium. Plus the concept of having a mature aquarium is very pertinent as well!

I got to say I don't like the way the question is worded. What anemone species are you looking at? Start with that and work your way backwards.

Proper flow is also just as important as lighting for anemones, as is water quality. Anemones pick a spot with proper flow and lighting.

Anemones and cnidarians in general do not need that much blue light. 3 daylight and 1 actinic will be a better mix.

The slug was a greek goddess and the LFS told me it ate algae but it eats a type of blue sponge that isnt even known which one. so he sold me an animal knowing it was going to die from no eating and it wiped out my crabs and my anemone within 12 hours. the fish did live except the royal gramma....how about if I went with 2 sets of light say two 65 watt actinic and 6 65 watt flourescent...I know coldshot just get high output t-5s. but for my ninety and even for this 55 what is the best lighting under 500.00 a pop...I am not ready to step up to the pump on the ninety yet but paid down on a used tank only for 150.00...which maybe high to you but here in the Cherokee nation and my being disabled with no wheels I havent many options.....what would be suitable for a 55 with soft corals...john said even t-5z maybe to much ...so what now...

I love my SunDial T5 HO. I got a 48" setup 4x54 for my 55. With shipping it was under 500.

They say the default lights should be replaced.... and replace them I will... nine months later :p
